Analysis of Translators’ “Invisibility” and “Visibility” in Translating “To Live” from the Perspective of Transknowletology

From the perspective of Transknowletology, this study analyzes Michael Berry’s translation of To Live, taking translator’s subjectivity as the entry point. It aims to explore how the translator, through his artistic recreation at the linguistic level, either weakens his own “presence” or allows himself to be appropriately “visible”, so as to preserve the original style as completely as possible and convey the cultural knowledge of the source text. Through specific case analyses, this paper reveals the translator’s multiple identities as a knowledge recipient, reconstructor, and disseminator from the perspective of Transknowletology, as well as his crucial role in intercultural communication. Consequently, it offers a new research perspective for the development of Transknowletology.
