Economic justification for the introduction of “green technologies” in feed production to preserve soil fertility

Purpose. To determine the economic efficiency of implementing “green technologies” in feed production to preserve soil fertility and increase the profitability of economic activity, as well as to identify financial performance and potential for investment development of farms of various scales. Methods. Comparative analysis of costs and revenues, model forecasting, methods of economic sustainability assessment, expert survey of farm managers in Vinnytsia region were used in the research. Results. The results of the study showed that the implementation of “green technologies” in feed production, in particular, striptill, bioenergy, precision agriculture, has undeniable economic and agro-ecological advantages. According to the results of the comparative analysis, farms using such technologies demonstrate a reduction in production costs by 12-28%, an increase in profitability by up to 35%, and an increase in yield by 10-18%. Expert surveys of farmers in Vinnytsia region confirm a high level of satisfaction with technologies that provide both economic benefits and the preservation of soil fertility. In particular, medium-sized farms that invested in striptill and GPS monitoring reached the break-even point within 1.5-2 years. The calculated financial models indicate the attractiveness of such investments for small and medium-sized farms, provided that they receive state support and grant co-financing. Conclusions. The study confirmed the economic feasibility and agroecological efficiency of “green technologies” in feed production. The use of strip-till, precision agriculture and biogas plants contributes to reducing costs, increasing yields and preserving soil fertility. The high level of profitability and rapid return on investment justify the need for state support and the development of regional implementation strategies.
