Attitudes Toward Guarani Language Education in the Metropolitan Area of Paraguay
This study examines the attitudes of residents in the metropolitan area of Paraguay toward Guarani language education, exploring the social factors that influence their perceptions. Based on a self-administered questionnaire composed of open-ended questions, the research identifies patterns of acceptance and resistance concerning the teaching of Guarani in the formal education system. Although no statistically significant differences were found according to demographic variables such as sex, age, or occupation, the findings reveal a broadly shared appreciation of Guarani across all social sectors analyzed.<br/> Moreover, the study highlights the need to adapt Guarani instruction to the linguistic forms actually used by the population, including references to yopará, a mixed variety commonly employed in everyday communication. In light of these findings, the study concludes with recommendations to strengthen Paraguay's language education policy from a functional, cultural, and inclusive perspective, promoting a closer alignment between school-based Guarani and the communicative realities of contemporary Paraguayan society.
