Removal Characteristics of TOC in Dyeing Wastewater Using Monopolar Electrolysis System
In this study, we related to the effects of voltage and electrolyte, distance and initial pH on Total Organic Carbon (TOC) removal efficiency for dyeing wastewater treatment with aluminum electrodes. A batch-type electrochemical reactor equipped with monopolar aluminum electrodes was operated for 60 minutes, and TOC removal was monitored at 10-minute intervals. When the apply voltage was adjusted to 5, 10, and 15 V, the removal efficiency of TOC was 30.03%, 37.97%, 49.07% at 60 min. However, when the distance of electrode was increased from 10 mm through 40 mm to 70 mm under a 15 V condition, the final removal efficiency of TOC decreased by 11.72%p and 19.45%p than 10 mm condition, respectively. Additionally, when NaCl was added to the electrolyte at concentrations of 10 mM under 5 V, 10 V, and 15 V conditions, the final efficiency increased by 0.32%p, 1.10%p, 2.07%p than non-addition condition. Lastly, when the initial pH was adjusted to 4, 7, and 10, during the first 10 minutes of the operation, the removal efficiency of TOC were estimated to be 39.40%, 22.52%, and 32.25%, respectively. However, at 60 min, the removal efficiency of TOC achieved were 43.96%, 40.33%, and 51.47%, respectively.
