Effect of weed management practices on weed dynamics, yield and quality of cluster bean Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub

This study investigates the impact of various weed management practices on weed dynamics, crop yield, and quality of clusterbean Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub under semi-arid conditions. Conducted during the Kharif season of 2024 at the research farm of Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur, the experiment utilized a randomized block design with eight treatments replicated thrice. The treatments included manual weeding, pre-emergence, and post-emergence herbicides, as well as integrated weed management approaches. Results revealed that a combination of Pendimethalin (pre-emergence) followed by Imazethapyr (post-emergence) recorded significant reductions in weed population and dry matter, while enhancing yield and quality parameters. Hand weeding also performed well but was less economical compared to herbicide combinations. Integrated weed management practices effectively controlled weeds, improved plant growth, increased seed yield, and offered superior benefit-cost ratios. These findings advocate the adoption of selective and integrated weed control measures for sustainable clusterbean production.
