Flight Trajectory Protection for an Air Mobility Vehicle with Augmented-Reality Pilot Feedback

Urban Air Mobility is emerging as a transformative solution for modern transportation; however, ensuring safety under abnormal flight conditions remains a critical challenge. This research introduces a framework to enhance operational safety by integrating rapid trajectory re-planning, based on a reduced flight envelope, with augmented reality visualization. The system is implemented on a lift+cruise vertical take off and landing NASA model, GUAM, and features an immersive interface that renders safe trajectories in real time, providing intuitive guidance to the pilot during degraded flight conditions. Simulation results demonstrate a reduction in pilot workload and an improvement in mission safety when the system is applied in scenarios involving control surface damages.
