Aeroelastic Tailoring of Strut-Braced Wing Using Tow-Steered Composites
This paper studies the aeroelastic tailoring of a high aspect ratio strut-braced wing (HARSBW) using tow-steered composites. Tow-steering is achieved using the Discrete Stiffness Tailoring (DST) manufacturing technique. To identify the optimal tow-path angles, genetic algorithm-based design optimization studies are performed. Structural modelling is conducted using finite element method for representative HARSBW. Aerodynamic modelling is carried out using the Doublet Lattice Method. A comprehensive computational framework is established by integrating MATLAB with MSC.Nastran. The study investigates the influence of varying ply orientations and ply counts on the wing’s aeroelastic performance.
