Sound Generation in a Turbulent Channel Flow
This study investigates the generation of aerodynamic noise in turbulent channel flows using compressible Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) and acoustic analogies in the wavenumber-frequency domain using source terms from compressible DNS at a friction Reynolds number of 180 and Mach numbers 0.3 and 0.7. Following a previous paper on the subject (AIAA-2024-3074), Lighthill’s analogy is further analyzed by decomposing source terms into shear and self-noise and by examining contributions across wall-parallel regions. To study sound-flow interactions, Lilley’s analogy is employed to separate propagation effects from aerodynamic sources in sheared flows. The findings highlight the complexities of noise generation in confined turbulent flows.
