Numerical Simulation of Perforated Plate for Cylinder Noise Reduction
Landing gear systems are a primary source of airframe noise during aircraft approach and landing, making their acoustic treatment a critical issue. This paper numerically investigates the noise mitigation potential of an upstream perforated plate for a single-cylinder configuration, a canonical model for a landing gear component. High-fidelity simulations are performed using the lattice Boltzmann-based ProLB software to analyze the complex flow-acoustic interactions. The study compares the baseline cylinder’s aerodynamic and acoustic signatures against the configuration shielded by the perforated plate. Results detail the plate’s influence on wake dynamics, vortex shedding, and surface pressure fluctuations. These findings quantify the noise reduction mechanism and provide critical insights for developing optimized, low-complexity fairings for quieter aircraft operations and compliance with future noise regulations.
