Flow Noise Excited by Three-Dimensional Wall Pressure Fluctuations Outside a Fluid-Filled Submerged Viscoelastic Cylindrical Shell

Exact elastic equations are used in this paper to examine the internal flow noise excited by three-dimensional wall pressure fluctuations outside an infinitely long fluid-filled submerged viscoelastic cylindrical shell. Pressure and normal displacement continuity are enforced across the fluid-solid interface to yield a set of linear equations governing the fluid-solid interaction. These equations are solved to obtain the transfer function between the internal flow noise and external wall pressure excitation. The model is validated against the axisymmetric and shell-equation-based models, respectively. The transfer function is subsequently studied as a function of various non-dimensional parameters. Results show that the magnitude of the transfer function is highly sensitive to the shell thickness, the density ratio, and the ratio between the wave speeds in the shell and fluids.
