WITHDRAWN: A Numerical Investigation on the Effect of Temperature on Supersonic Jet Aeroacoustics
High-speed high-temperature jets generate an intense unsteady pressure field that can result in airframe acoustic fatigue. The vibro-acoustics of an aluminium plate sidelining a Mach 2 hot jet is modelled at the conditions for rocket-assisted take-off and for high-specific thrust jet engine aircraft take-off. OpenFOAM large-eddy simulations with a low-dispersion finite-volume scheme and the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings acoustic analogy estimate the jet near-field pressure excitation from an isolated axisymmetric nozzle at a stagnation to ambient temperature ratio of up to 5. These estimates are validated against published acoustic measurements. Under these unsteady pressure loads, mechanical fatigue analysis revealed that thin-gauge plates, such as access panels, have a short service life, whereas a plate exceeding 1 mm in thickness can last over 10,000 take-offs.
