Supercritical Flow Computations by Using Interface Sharpening Reconstruction
A Monotonic-Upstream-centered-Scheme-for-Conservation-Laws (MUSCL)-tangential-hyperbolic-interface-capturing (THINC)-p-rho (or “T-MUSCL”) has been applied to supercritical fluid simulations. The numerical solutions are encouraging: The T-MUSCL successfully captured contact surfaces sharply without provoking notorious pressure oscillations when coupled with a pressure evolution equation, even if the shockwave is involved. This method is applicable not only to 1D inviscid benchmark problems, but also to a 2D viscous one. Since T-MUSCL does not require a large stencil in contrast with higher-order methods, its wide applications are expected.
