Relativistic Modelling for Transit of a Photon Kinetic Energy Sail

The purpose of this paper was to derive analytically a model for the transit of a photon kinetic energy sail within the classical and relativistic regimes of travel. The significance of this research is a contribution towards the possibility of deep space exploration utilising this technology; it would significantly further our ability to conduct previously impossible research, travel and embarked missions. The methodology utilised for this was one which involved the quantitative analytical derivation of a formula which utilises a Lorentz transformation for the relativistic conversion of the force imposed on a sail by radiation back pressure. The results came back and provided a final result for a model, which is mathematically correct. Accurate computational mapping of the model is yet to be fully successful. Ultimately the project was a success, in that a transformation and final model was derived, it has opened up a multitude of new pathways for this research to continue and for the model to be improved.
