Simulating System and Powerplant Dynamics of an e-VTOL Aircraft for a Full Flight Mission Including Transition

As Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing aircraft approach their introduction to service in advanced air mobility operations, their operational versatility makes them a key testbed for the further electrification of aviation. Publicly available tools are needed to understand, predict, and optimize the impact these aircraft will have on energy, emissions, and mobility infrastructure. To meet this need, we have developed a 6-Degree-of-Freedom (6-DOF) eVTOL aircraft model in the Aeronomie simulation tool to capture aircraft and powerplant dynamics. This paper, the final in a series detailing our eVTOL modeling efforts addresses the flight dynamics of the critical transition phase between vertical and forward flight. We present the development of the dynamic model and control system required to simulate this complex maneuver.
