Large Eddy Simulation of Rough Wall Hypersonic Turbulent Boundary Layers

A Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is presented for a hypersonic zero pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer over a rough wall. The surface roughness comprises a three dimensional diamond pattern with k/delta = 0.165 where k is the roughness height and delta is the boundary layer thickness immediately upstream of roughness region. The mean flow, turbulence statistics and flowfield structure are described.

Abstract

A Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is presented for a hypersonic zero pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer over a rough wall. The surface roughness comprises a three dimensional diamond pattern with k/delta = 0.165 where k is the roughness height and delta is the boundary layer thickness immediately upstream of roughness region. The mean flow, turbulence statistics and flowfield structure are described.
