Sizing and Analysis of Hybrid-Electric Single Main Rotor NOTAR Helicopters using the PEACE Framework
Hybrid-electrification of the propulsion system may provide opportunities to improve safety and some point performance metrics of helicopters while maintaining practical range, endurance, and payload capabilities. This paper analyzes these opportunities through optimization of a single main rotor tail rotor-less configuration using the Parametric Energy-based Aircraft Configuration Evaluator sizing framework. Results and sensitivity analyses are shown for both single-engine and twin-engine helicopters.
