Validation of an Extended Mach High Subsonic Lattice-Boltzmann Method for Jet Noise Aeroacoustics

This work presents the latest development of a Lattice-Boltzmann Method (LBM)-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver and its application to aeroacoustics predictions of jet noise using the NASA baseline SMC000 straight-contraction reference nozzle geometry. The solver's Mach number capability has been extended beyond the standard high-subsonic range to Mach 1.2, while maintaining low numerical dissipation and computational efficiency. In this study, the extended method is validated against experimental jet noise data from the SMC000 test campaign across various flow conditions and compared to results from the original LBM high-subsonic formulation. For setpoints 07 (high subsonic, unheated core) and 29 (high subsonic, heated core), the extended solver demonstrates improved agreement with experimental measurements relative to the baseline solver.

Abstract

For setpoints 07 (high subsonic, unheated core) and 29 (high subsonic, heated core), the extended solver demonstrates improved agreement with experimental measurements relative to the baseline solver.
