Aerodynamic Simulations of a Blended Fan-in-Wing Body VTOL Configuration for Optimal and Efficient Flight Transition
The advancement of battery technology, electric motors, automation, and control methods has established electrical Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles as a viable solution for urban air mobility (UAM), package delivery, and public services. Electrical motors permit new control methods, such as varying the thrust of the propellers to enhance operational performance. This study aims to find an optimal trajectory during takeoff phase. For this purpose, the research investigates computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using FlightStream software to model aerodynamic behavior using vortex panel methods. Subsequently, the aerodynamic data is integrated with the aircraft dynamic model to derive an optimized numerical solution for efficient flight transition.
