Model Predictive Control of Three-Level Boost Converters in Photovoltaic and Wind Energy Systems Connected to a Bipolar DC Microgrid
This paper introduces a model predictive control of three-level boost converters (TLBC) interfaced with photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy conversion systems (WECS) connected to a bipolar DC microgrid. The goal is to maximise power extraction from both renewable sources and balance bipolar voltages against unbalanced loading. The proposed bipolar grid includes an energy storage system (ESS) with a bi-directional buck-boost converter per pole to regulate voltages at the bipolar DC microgrid. The effectiveness of the proposed control technique has been confirmed with simulation results using Matlab/Simulink under variable solar irradiance, wind velocity, and also load variations.
