A Single Switch Structured Improved Quadratic Boost Converter for Renewable Energy Applications

In the integration of renewable energy systems with DC grids, a DC-DC boost converter which produces a high gain output plays a crucial role. To meet this purpose, a non-isolated high-gain single switch based improved quadratic boost (SSIQB) converter is proposed in this paper. A single semiconductor switch, five diodes, three inductors, and two capacitors are utilized in the design of the proposed converter. This converter attains extremely high gain at lower duty ratios and high efficiency. The advantages include low switching stress and reduced current stress. The principle of operation and steady-state analysis in continuous conduction mode are studied in this paper. The parameter design and comparative analysis are included to show the features and how the proposed converter is better than the existing literature. The theoretical circuit analysis is validated in MATLAB/Simulink for a 500 W output power. The input voltage of the converter is set at 48 V. It delivers an output voltage of 400 V at a load resistance of 320 $\Omega$, attaining a voltage gain of $2 /(1-\mathrm{D})^{2}$ and operating with a duty ratio of 51.5%. The converter is observed to operate at a high level of performance, making it ideal for high-voltage and medium-power applications of renewable energy sources.
