Database Repository with Data Analytics and Image-Capture to Text Feature for Microcredential Course
Microcredentials have been an increasing trend in the advent of the global pandemic. In response to bridging the gap between the academe and the industry, some institutions provide upskilling to the students by offering Microcredential courses. However, these microcredential courses need a repository to monitor the list of courses enrolled by the students effectively. This study created a software application program to serve as a repository for students taking microcredentials that can provide analytics based on student data. Using image-to-text technology, the program scans a JPEG-format certificate, detecting the contents displayed, and places it on a website where it will show data analytics and a summary of skills depending on the certificates, further giving the user insights into what path they have progressed on and where they are lacking. This study presents a tailored database repository system specifically designed to meet the needs of Mapua Malayan Colleges Laguna students enrolled in micro-credential courses. Offering a seamless user experience, students can effortlessly input course details via a personalized Graphical User Interface (GUI) or utilize an innovative API-integrated Image-to-text for efficient certificate data extraction and upload. A sophisticated search engine also empowers students to explore various micro-credential courses across various Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platforms, with direct links for further exploration. Administrators benefit from comprehensive data analysis tools, including graphical representations and rankings, enabling informed decision-making and furnishing invaluable insights for optimizing course offerings and academic support services. Upon testing the system, it was able to provide the data and information about the users based on their uploaded credentials. Furthermore, it has proved that the system is functional and satisfied the user’s expectation of the system with 70% useful and 46% "very satisfied" while on the results for the average speed for accessing the system using different browsers Google (2.1 seconds), Opera (2.26 seconds), Edge (2.41 seconds) optimized for Internet use as the system was accessible and free of errors.
