Parameter Identification and Controller Design of DAB Converter for Off-board EV Charging Applications
Recent trends in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure have shown development in the part of power electronic topology which is being used. Since most of the EVs are adopted to off-board charging mode because of the Reduced Vehicle Weight and Cost, Faster charging times, better thermal management, Grid integration and Smart charging there is a need for converter which can have High Power Capability. This paper deals with the design, modelling and the control of one prominent topology which is a Dual Active bridge (DAB) Converter. However, considering the charging and discharging mode of EVs which when considered for the bidirectional operation of converter in case of Vehicle-To-Grid (V2G) and Grid-To-Vehicle (G2V); the controller needs to be designed which can have high loop bandwidth, faster response time and better adoption to the uncertainties in the system such as sudden load variation, or transition from Constant Current (CC) to Constant Voltage (CV) mode. This paper addresses the issues and parameters which need to be considered while designing such controllers considering the Phase-Shift Modulation (PSM) technique. The performance of parameter identification and controller design is validated by simulation and hardware results.
