Review of Conducted EMI in High Frequency based Traction Inverters
The carrier wave modulation technique is considered a constructive approach to minimize conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) and ease the stringent necessities for EMI filter design. This article briefed about various methods in reducing the conducted EMI for traction inverters. In addition, three different carrier signals namely triangular, sawtooth, and sinusoidal wave-based modulation schemes that are significantly used in traction inverters. Moreover, the analyzed strategies help to understand the behavior of the common mode and differential characteristics of the inverter and its selection. Additionally, the impact of total harmonic distortion, output voltage, and inverter’s overall performance has been assessed using MATLAB simulations. The results show that the changed carrier wave can reduce conducted EMI in comparison to traditional carrier frequency PWM.
