Performance Characteristics of Low Vibrating Bridge-Configured Squirrel Cage Induction Motor
The bearing-less machines have been an area of interest for researchers in the past few decades. These electrical machines support the motor’s rotor by generating electromagnetic forces using different winding configurations. One is the bridge-configured winding (BCW) configuration, which can be a cost-effective solution over other winding configurations. It can also develop the electromagnetic force used for position control or levitation. Hence, the transverse force-producing capability of the induction motor and the essential torque-producing capability have been investigated numerically in this paper. The complete design of the Y-connected, 50 HP, four-pole induction motor (IM) is also examined. The fundamental FEM analysis of the IM with and without the actuator effect has been developed for better understanding. The performance characteristics of the IM, such as the magnetizing currents, efficiency, and power factor, have also been investigated numerically. The no-load currents and the other parameters are studied numerically as well as experimentally, and the transverse force capability of the IM under no-load conditions and rated slip has been established due to the bridge supply of DC/AC currents for levitation purposes. The numerical study also suggests that the performance characteristics of the machine, such as rated torque and efficiency, will not be affected due to the additional injection of current for levitation purposes. These types of IM motors can be used in various applications, such as condition monitoring of mechanical faults, such as eccentricity, and to generate the forces for various mechanical means.
