Research Outcome Based Optimization Algorithm applied to Optimal Phasor Measurement Unit Placement

In this paper, an evolutionary optimization algorithm is presented by mimicking the nature and working style of researchers. The research community is divided into four classes and approximate mathematical modeling of each class of researchers is presented. The proposed algorithm is validated by applying on 23 benchmark functions. For all benchmark functions the proposed algorithm results in the final solution that is independent of number of iterations consumed for hitting the near global optimal solution. This feature makes it unique compared to other optimization algorithms. The case study using benchmark functions is compared with four other optimization algorithms. From the comparison the supremacy of proposed algorithm is well established. A Binary version of this algorithm is also presented and applied it on a optimal Phasor Measurement Unit placement problem. Case studies using IEEE 14 and 30 bus systems are presented.
