Constant Current-Constant Voltage based EV Battery Charging using High Frequency Phase-Shift Full Bridge Converter
Battery charging for electric vehicles (EVs) is essential for environmentally friendly transportation options. This paper presents a modified approach for EV battery charging using a constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) method combined with a high frequency phase shift full bridge (PSFB) converter. This approach dynamically modifies charging parameters to ensure high performance during the charging process, improving efficiency and adaptability for the battery charging at different state-of-charge (SOC). The highfrequency PSFB converter is good for the medium voltage, high performance EV charging stations because it enables effective power conversion with decreased size, weight, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Incorporating CC-CV in the PSFB stage reduces the possibility of overcharging, improves battery life, and safer operation. Moreover, phaseshifting management and high-frequency operation, together improves overall efficiency and reduces power losses. The proposed EV battery charging method has been demonstrated through the 400 V DC voltage across PSFB for $72 \mathrm{~V}, 26 \mathrm{Ahr}$, battery charging. The simulation results are obtained through the MATLAB based studies and experimental results are obtained using the Typhoon 404 processor acting as a controller for the PSFB converter.
