Magnetic Loss Comparison for Link Current Optimized Triple Active Bridge Converters with Soft Switching

This paper focuses on the loss comparison in the magnetic design for the triple port dual-transformer triple active bridge and triple active bridge based on three-winding-transformer under optimized link current stresses. Triple phase shift modulation techniques are considered for the converters with a single inner phase shift and two outer phase shifts. Link current optimization is carried out by considering the aggregate currents in the link and considering soft switching conditions for the entire range of converter operation. The loss calculations in the transformer and inductors are carried out considering high-frequency effects present in the magnetics. The mathematical calculations and loss estimations are reported. Efficiency comparison and loss evaluations are performed for a 3.5 kW wide bandgap-based three-port converter.
