A Novel Doubly Grounded High Gain Single Stage Inverter for Photovoltaic Applications

For solar PV (SPV) applications, power electronic converters are generally used to convert the low PV DC voltage into a high-gain AC voltage. This paper proposes a novel Doubly Grounded High Gain Single Stage Inverter (DGHGSSI). The inverter is buck-boost based which is incorporated with switched capacitor technique having an improvement AC gain. The proposed inverter employs a single inductor for both the negative and positive portions of the output AC voltage, thereby assuring symmetry in the AC waveform. It functions with a single DC voltage source, providing power to both portions, hence enhancing its resiliency to variations in the multiple power sources. Furthermore, the DGHGSSI utilizes fewer components, resulting in advantages like compact design, reduced weight and decreased cost. A complete design and analysis of the proposed inverter in continuous conduction mode are provided and discussed. Results from the MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation validate the analysis and operation. The results from the hardware prototype also validate the operation of the proposed inverter.
