Platelets and platelet–leukocyte interactions in infectious diseases

Platelets contribute to protective and pathological responses by regulating innate and adaptive immunity through activation, hyperaggregability and directly interacting with pathogens. Even though many mechanisms underlying platelet roles in infectious disease have been revealed, much remains to be investigated.
