Chemical constituents from the fibrous roots of Anemarrhena asphodeloides and their in vitro cytotoxic activity

To explore chemical constituents in the fibrous roots of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, 12 compounds were obtained, including three undescribed compounds (1-3) and nine known related compounds (4-12). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analyses, including 1D, 2D NMR, and HRESIMS data. The cytotoxic activity of all isolates was evaluated against two human hepatoma carcinoma cells (HepG2 and Hep3B) in vitro. Among them, compounds 1, 2, and 4 exhibited inhibitory effects at high concentration of 50 μM. Compound 4 showed cytotoxic activities against HepG2 and Hep3B cell lines with the IC50 values of 14.80 ± 0.58 and 10.89 ± 0.46 μM, respectively.
