Monochromatic excimer light (308 nm) versus monochromatic excimer light (308 nm) and 4% khellin extract in treatment of psoriasis

Background and aim Psoriasis is a chronic proliferative and inflammatory condition of the skin characterized by erythematous plaques covered with silvery scales, particularly over the extensor surfaces, scalp, and lumbosacral region. Therefore; to Evaluate the efficacy and safety of excimer light and 4% khellin (KHE) extract versus Excimer light alone in treatment of psoriasis. Patients and methods A prospective comparative clinical study carried out on 65 patients with psoriatic lesions diagnosed clinically regardless age, sex or site (15 noncompliant patients dropped out, we enrolled them from result) was conducted at Department of Dermatology, Al-Azhar University (Assiut) during the period from September 2020 to August 2022. Results There was a significant difference in improvement between sites treated with Khelin and Excimer and sites treated with Excimer alone after 3 months ( P =0.01). there is a significant difference between KHE plus excimer light versus excimer light alone, in group I there are no side effects in (68%), mild erythema in (24%), bullae (4%), and burning sensation (4%). While in group II there are no side effects in (92%), mild erythema in (6%) and burning sensation in (2%). Conclusion A combination of 4% KHE extract and Excimer light is an effective and safe method for the treatment of psoriasis. It is also easy and not time-consuming.
