Destructive diamondback moth Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) and inspection concerning its effective management strategy

AbstractFour-treatments viz., Spinosad 2750 µl/5000 ml, ladybird beetle Coccinella septempunctata 5/greenhouses, neemix Azadirachta indica 300 ppm @ 2 ml/l, and untreated control were used against diamond back moth, The experiment was conducted in a split-plot design with sixteen greenhouses, and a variety of green coronet cabbage. The population of DBM increased with increasing temperatures (i.e., 1-8°C) and lowest in Spinosad-treated plots, followed by ladybird beetle released plots, botanical sprayed and untreated control. Before the spray, the pest population was 300, which increased from 180 to 390 and 320 to 1000 after 4 days of the first spray to 12 days of the third spray in Spinosad and untreated control sprayed plots, respectively. Similarly, yield and yield-attributing characters of cabbage plants were better in Spinosad-treated plots compared to other treatments. Spinosad was found better treatment as compared to ladybird beetle and neemix in controlling the DBM.
