OSTEOPLASTIC MATERIALS FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTS AND DEFORMITIES OF THE MANDIBLE – A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

The aim of the study is to summarise the available data characterising the manifestaons, clinical course, diagnosis and treatment of defects and deformies of the mandible. An analysis of current scienc, experimental, and clinical studies was conducted based on a review of medical literature from the Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases over the past 10 years. When planning reconstrucve surgical intervenons in the maxillofacial region, the primary goal is not only to restore funcon but also to restore the anatomical integrity of the facial skull and restore the facial contours.Restoring the harmonious proporons of the facial skull is one of the key tasks in maxillofacial surgery. The choice of osteoplasc materials and methods of reconstrucve surgery in the treatment of defects and defor-mies of the mandible must meet the following requirements: be as reliable as possible, restore the funcon of the denon, not cause signicant facial aesthec disturbances, and have a minimal risk of complicaons. The correct choice of plasc replacement for a mandible defect is a complex and not yet fully resolved problem that depends on many factors and must be selected individually, taking into account the locaon, size of the defect, the cause of its occurrence (tumour, trauma, inammatory processes, etc.), the paent's age, concomitant diseases, the clinic's equipment, and the surgeon's experience.A promising direcon in mandible reconstrucon is the replacement of signicant defects with the simultaneous use of osteo-replacement material and dental implants, which allows for high-quality orthopaedic rehabilitaon with improved chewing eciency. In view of the above, improving the eecveness and speeding up the treatment of paents with mandible defects and deformies is based on the correct choice of surgical intervenon in each specic case, the selecon of the opmal opon for osteoreplacement and reconstrucve materials, as well as raonal prosthecs. One way to solve this problem is to replace large defects of the mandible through the simultaneous implantaon of dental implants and the use of endoprostheses for the temporomandibular joint. These issues remain understudied and are of considerable scienc and praccal interest.
