ACUMULACIÓN DE MINERALES Y CARBOHIDRATOS Y SU RELACIÓN CON LA MACRO Y MICRO MORFOLOGÍA DE Dasylirion cedrosanum TREL.

Background. Dasylirion cedrosanum Trel. is used to produce sotol, which has had an increase in its production. In view of this, producers are interested in establishing monocultures to mitigate its overexploitation. The lack of information on the ecophysiology of the plant hinders these measures. Objective. To analyze and associate the carbohydrate content, the micromorphological and macromorphological characters, and the mineral components of the stem and leaf of D. cedrosanum. Methodology. Leaf and stem tissue samples were collected from 10 plants in San Lorenzo, General Cepeda and Buenavista in Coahuila. Fructose, glucose, starch and mineral contents were determined, and macro and micromorphological character data were collected. Analysis was performed by ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Results. Fructose content was higher in the stem and starch in the leaf. Plants from Buenavista presented a higher concentration of carbohydrates and minerals, and had the highest values for macromorphological characters. Micromorphological characters did not show significant differences. Correlations indicated a negative association of Cu and Pb with carbohydrates and micromorphology. In contrast, K, P and Mg were positively associated. Conclusions. Different conditions at each locality influenced macromorphology and concentrations of minerals, glucose starch and fructose. Implications. The information obtained is the basis for the establishment and management of nursery plants.
