Comparison of laparoscopic myomectomy and open myomectomy for uterine fibroids: Efficacy and safety

• The duration of surgery, intraoperative blood loss, and hospital stay in the LM group were more effective compared with the AM group. • The incidence of postoperative complications was lower in the LM group. • It is recommended to be clinically preferred as the treatment method for uterine fibroids. Common benign tumors in women, uterine fibroids, are often treated with traditional open hysterectomy, which can result in high complication rates. Laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) has gained popularity in recent years. The effectiveness and safety of these two surgical methods for uterine fibroids is not yet known. The purpose of this study was mainly to compare the effectiveness and safety of LM and abdominal myomectomy (AM) in the treatment of uterine fibroids. The study employs a retrospective design, collecting information on 106 patients treated for uterine fibroids at this hospital from January 2024 to January 2025. According to the treatment method, the patients were divided into two groups: AM group (n=51) and LM group (n=55). The duration of surgery, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay and incidence of postoperative complications were compared in the two groups. The operation time in the LM group was 67.13 ± 0.56 min, the length of stay was 5.68 ±0.72 days, the intraoperative blood loss was 57.61±0.82 ml; The operation time in the AM group 89.74±0.67 minutes, the length of stay was 7.16 ±1.47 days, and the intraoperative bleeding volume was 86.57±1.58 ml. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (p<0.05). In addition, the incidence of postoperative complications in the LM group was significantly lower than that in the AM group (p<0.05). In comparison to AM, LM shows greater effectiveness but less safety concerning the time spent in surgery, blood loss during the procedure, and the duration of hospitalization. Therefore, it is recommended to be clinically preferred as the preferred method for uterine fibroid treatment. However, further research is needed to study its long-term effectiveness and safety.
