A Novel Analog Implementation of State Space Based Control of a Buck Converter
State Space based control is considered a modern control technique because both design and implementation are achieved within digital platforms. The method has proved its merits in solving complex design problems, for instance in aviation systems. It has been sparsely applied to power converters with demonstrated advantages over conventional control solutions. The new dynamic requirements added to design of power supplies - additional to stability margins and steady-state error - recommend exploring further this design approach. While all previous implementation solutions are based on digital platforms, this paper introduces an analogue mode implementation following closely the conventional Power IC architecture. A comparison between proposed and conventional solution is included.
