An IoT Based System for Remote Monitoring of Critical Communication Equipment in Airports
Monitoring of critical communication equipment in airports is essential to ensure safe operations and to prevent any emergency situations that may arise from equipment failures. The failures usually happen due to variations in temperature and humidity of the control room and due to the variations in power supply. The paper highlights the importance of monitoring critical airport communication equipment to prevent failures. It proposes an IoT-based system for remote monitoring of temperature, humidity, and voltage variations which contributes to the goals of promoting sustainable energy practices. The system includes sensors and a Raspberry Pi-Connected webcam to detect equipment faults via scene changes. Email alerts are sent to the user when any vital parameters exceed defined thresholds, enhancing response times to avoid disruption in airport operations, thereby enhancing the safety and well-being of passenger and staff. The system was successfully tested at Kalaburagi airport, with promising results for future AI/ML integration.
