Advancing Sustainability in Construction: A Comprehensive Study on 3D-Printed Concrete Technologies
3D printing has changed many industries, and its effects on construction, particularly with 3D printed concrete (3DPC), are significant. This study looks at the latest advancements in 3DPC and highlights advantages over traditional building methods, like improved design flexibility, less material waste, and lower labor costs. Using eco-friendly materials such as geopolymers also enhances sustainability by reducing reliance on Portland cement, which contributes greatly to global CO, emissions. The review covers progress in various 3D printing techniques, including Extrusion Printing (EP), Binder Jetting Method (BJM), and 3D Printed Formwork, each offering unique solutions for different construction needs. It evaluates various concrete mixtures, additives, and new materials to show improvements in strength, durability, and ease of printing.. Additionally, the cost evaluation demonstrates the potential for 3DPC to cut down on labor costs while increasing material expenses, ultimately offering a competitive advantage in specific construction scenarios. 3DPC plays a crucial role, particularly in areas with limited resources. This study concludes by assessing the future prospects of 3D printed concrete, projecting its wider adoption in both developed and developing nations, driven by the growing demand for sustainable building practices and housing solutions.
