Comparative Evaluation of Bidirectional DC-DC Converter Topologies with Wide Voltage Ratio
This paper presents a comparative evaluation of bidirectional DC-DC converter topologies for wide voltage ratio applications. Fourteen distinct topologies have been selected and categorized into five classes based on their voltage conversion ratios. Unlike most existing studies, this work presents calculated key comparison metrics, including total capacitive and inductive energy, total active switch stress, in addition to the conversion ratio and component count. These metrics serve as comparative criteria as they relate to the cost, power density, and efficiency of each topology. The studied topologies include the classic buck-boost converter, hybrid switched-inductor and switched capacitor converters, as well as multilevel and quadratic converters.
