Permanent Magnet Segmentation vs. Snakeline Magnets in Effective Reduction of Eddy Current Losses in PMSM Motor with High Power Density

The publication presents a comparison of the effectiveness of reducing eddy current losses by segmentation of permanent magnets and Snakeline Magnet Technology. The object of the research is the Fractional Slot PMSM motor with a maximum power of 50 kW (@ 4800 rpm) and a mass of 10.5 kg. In this type of motors, due to the higher harmonics of the MMF force distribution, the phenomenon of eddy current losses in the rotor elements, including permanent magnets, cannot be omitted. This paper presents a comparison of the results of laboratory tests and numerical simulations for several variants of permanent magnet segmentation and Snakeline Magnet Technology. The experimental results were compared with the results of numerical calculations on 2D and 3D models.
