A Techno Economic Analysis of Power Generation System in Public Park
Public parks are situated evenly in planned urban cities. Parks produce a large amount of plant waste or biomass which must be treated or disposed of regularly. This biomass can be used for producing biofuels which is further used for power generation thereby providing waste management and electricity requirement solutions. This paper studies production of biogas from anaerobic digestion of garden waste, which is used for generating electricity using an internal combustion engine coupled to a generator. A case study of a park in Delhi is done for determining feasibility of such system. Daily 42 tons of biomass is pretreated for maximizing biogas production. An economic analysis of biogas producing system shows that initial costs are recovered in three years by selling digested biomass, which is used as fertilizer. Further a 110-kW rated power generating system is simulated in Homer software, internal requirement of 500 kWh daily is fulfilled by it and surplus energy of 781100 kWh is sold to grid annually which makes the power generation system economically feasible. Heat in the exhaust gases from biogas engine is reused for biomass pretreatment. The proposed model solves issues with waste management, energy requirement and circular economy which can serve as reference model for installing distributed generation systems for urban as well as rural areas.
