A New Synchronous Reluctance Machine Position Observer Based on Active Flux Concept

High-efficiency electric machines that use less or no permanent magnets have come into greater demand in recent years. With their high efficiency and absence of permanent magnets, Synchronous Reluctance Machines (SynRMs) are a promising technology that fits these needs in industry. This research aims to investigate sensorless control of the SynRM using a novel position and speed observer based on Dynamic Regressor Extension and Mixing observer. The proposed method applies the active flux concept to transform the magnetically anisotropic machine into an isotropic one, alongside the robust-adaptive position observer. This approach gives a universal position and speed observer for all ac machines, providing an effective solution for sensorless control, even in the low-speed range where back electromotive force (Berni) observer is less reliable. The models and control techniques are developed, simulated, and studied using the MATLAB/Simulink simulation environment, which offers a comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness of the suggested method.
