Simulation and Analysis of 13-Node Distribution Network Integrated with Photovoltaic and Wind Energy Systems
The integration of non-conventional energy sources, such as photovoltaic and wind power, significantly impacts electric distribution networks due to their intermittency. Over the past decade, India has seen rapid growth in renewable energy, with photovoltaic capacity rising from 3,075 MW to 4,057 MW, and wind energy now contributing over 5,500 MW, or about 6% of total national power. This shift supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly 7, 9, and 13. This study models a microgrid connected to a 13-node feeder system to evaluate network robustness against failures and fluctuations. A 1.0 MW photovoltaic and a 1.5 MW wind system are integrated and analyzed using OpenDSS and Matlab, with PI control regulating voltage and current. Simulation results show the system’s resilience to disruptions, highlighting its potential for modernizing India’s energy networks in alignment with sustainable development objectives.
