Harnessing Wave Energy: Sustainable Design and Optimization of Wave Energy Converters
The motivation to use wave energy as one of the forms of sustainable energy is rooted in its environmental friendliness. In the present work, the existing wave energy converters are analyzed, concerning the WEC's design and optimization. Offshore WECs harness kinetic and potential energy in ocean waves for power generation that reaches homes and industries, employing point absorbers, oscillating water columns, and attenuators that fit the prevailing wave patterns in offshore islands. Such devices exert structural and energy design related problems or questions that involve hydrodynamic analysis and complex control mechanisms which are in the engineering category. Design modifications are incorporated in computers to control variation and optimize energy extraction based on wave intensity. The focus of the study also provides the progress of integration of multiproduct renewable plants, involving wave, wind and sun electricity to guarantee consistent revenues all the year round. WEC design performance improvement is studied through identification of site-specific improvement strategies. The study focuses on material and on their optimization saying that unlike other approaches, they have their own limitations which have to do with high initial cost and environmental impact. Thus, future work should focus on enhancing the integration of generic WECs to ensure that wave energy forms a viable power generation solution.
