Characterization of Permanent Magnet Magnetization for Segmented Halbach Arrays
This study presents a comparison between FEM simulations and experimental magnetic field measurements produced by the magnets forming a segmented Halbach array, designed for integration into an axial-flux machine—a typical solution for enhancing torque density in various applications, such as automotive. The paper emphasizes the importance of having an appropriate experimental setup to accurately assess the magnetic field generated by the magnets, in order to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed design solution. Additionally, it develops a precise measurement system for determining the magnetic field strength in quasi-static condition, utilizing a triaxial Hall effect probe and an automated positioning system.
