Finite Element Analysis and Experimental Tests of a Series Hybrid Excitation Synchronous Machine
Finite element analysis and experimental test results of a series hybrid excitation synchronous machine with fractional slot concentrated winding and modular stator and rotor laminations, that uses a combination of grain oriented electric steel for the stator teeth and yoke, as well as for the rotor poles, and non-oriented electric steel for the rotor yoke, are presented into this paper. The main focus of this study was to combine the advantages of the permanent magnets and electromagnetic excitations, ensuring high efficiency and increased field weakening capability for the machine operating in a large speed range. Additionally, the possibility of using nonoriented and grain oriented electric steel for different parts of the machines modular-build magnetic circuit has been implemented for reduced material wastes and increased automation manufacturing process, as well as for performances enhancement.
