Application of antimicrobial and aromatic paint indoor and outdoor wall
The paint on the wall surface is often attached by a consortium of microorganisms in the form of a biofilm which is difficult to remove and even tends to damage the wall.To eliminate and prevent the formation of biofilm by microorganisms on painted walls, it is necessary to admixing paint with environmentally friendly antimicrobial subtances. The objectives of the research is to eliminate microbial consortia in the wall by admixing paint with essential oil and silver nanoparticle. In this research, the wall paint will be mixed with clove, patchouli and citronella essential oils and silver nanoparticles in a ratio of 1:1:2:1:10.Furthermore, the paint solution is homogenized and applied to the indoor and outdoor walls.Microbial biofilm growth will be seen after six months of treatment. The research results showed that the application of the mixed paint to the interior walls did not show any growth of microbial consortia and the painting results still looked good with the aromatherapy continuing to emerge for three months. The application of mixed paint to the outer walls showed that the aromatherapy lasted for around two months and there was no growth of microbial consortia on the walls. However, the quality of the painting has begun to decrease after six months of application.
