Fragility curve for reinforced concrete buildings with flat slab systems in Indonesia

This study aims to predict the probability of collapse of reinforced concrete structures with a flat slab system using a fragility curve approach.Flat slab systems for reinforced concrete buildings gained recognition recently due to their ability to produce thinner, cost-effective, and visually attractive structures. The non-existence of beam elements in this flat slab system would undoubtedly result in significant complexities if the structure were constructed in earthquake-prone areas, such as Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to implement a fragility curve to assess the possibility of damage in reinforced concrete structures with a flat slab system. This study compared two types of flat slab systems with and without drop panels. In addition, this study also uses seismic loads from several locations in Indonesia, including Bandar Lampung, Medan, Yogyakarta, and East Nusa Tenggara. The numerical nonlinear analysis is applied to a 4-stories building with a flat slab system. The results show that the flat slab building with a drop panel produces insignificant displacement but lower base shear forces than a building without a drop panel. In addition, the fragility curve shows that the probability of damages was different in each investigated location.
