Literary Analysis and Translation Comparison of Jane Eyre Excerpts from the Foregrounding Perspective

Foregrounding is a stylistic device that deviates from conventional language or artistic form in order to highlight specific textual elements, thereby drawing the reader’s attention and enhancing the aesthetic or emotional effect of the work. In the British literary classic Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë uses a lot of foregrounding techniques to enhance the expressiveness and emotional tension of the text, making the work a model for foregrounding research while also bringing significant challenges to the translator’s cross-language conversion. This paper takes the first chapter of Jane Eyre as the research object, specifically analyzing the use and effects of “quantitative foregrounding” and “qualitative foregrounding” in the original text, and selects the translations of two famous translators, Zhu Qingying and Wu Junxie, to compare and analyze their strategies for dealing with these foregrounding, aiming to explore the artistic value of the language of the original work and the translation conversion method of foregrounding expression in literary translation.
