Tia Higinia: A Woman Ahead of Her Time, and: The Failure of Man and Prayer
Our formative years in Bisbee, Arizona, between 1923 and 1940, were happy times under the same roof with Mamagrande, Mom, six aunts, and two uncles. How comforting to my cocoon existence were the sounds and sights of a house filled with family at any time of night and day.In particular I came to know and love resourceful and sincerely affectionate Tia Higinia.I found refuge with this fun-loving, adventurous, and generous family "black sheep."The seventh of Mamagrande's offsprings, she married in her teens and divorced in her early twenties.Never had children of her own-sad for them but lucky for us.From a young age, Higinia defined herself as daring and extroverted. Here, we see Tia Maggie in step with her supposed male partner, Higinia: mustached, exhibiting a surprising turn in her tailoring path with the male suit, photographed with a glowing background, as if performing on stage.
